Never Stop Learning

November, 2006

I'm off to Boston this month to add more software to my toolkit!!  BladeLogic is the industry-leading platform for the management, control and enforcement of configuration changes in the data center. More Global 2000 enterprises have deployed BladeLogic in their data centers than any other automation solution.

BladeLogic customers have dramatically lowered their operating costs for managing servers and critical business applications by automating key data center functions.  As the underlying driver for orchestration, provisioning, configuration and change control, and compliance, BladeLogic enables customers to save time and cut costs.

BladeLogic has been my baby for a couple of months now.  I love this product and see all kinds of opportunity and potential.  I'm excited to cement some of the concepts I've been learning and working on with some professional training in a classroom setting.  BladeLogic joins NetCool, NerveCenter, the OpenView suite, Ciscoworks and Tivoli (to a lesser extent) in my realm of professional growth and development experiences.

Perl is a key programming language to enhance all of these tools.  I'm excited about BladeLogic because I'm most interested in automation and have an opportunity to do some more useful things with Perl.  The best thing of all is being able to wrap it all up in a functional GUI with organizational concepts like rights, authorizations and roles.

So far I see how BladeLogic makes data center automation possible, if not easier.  I'm therefore very excited and happy for this opportunity.  I will leverage everything I've got to make the most of it.

Transition Successful: No Problems with Automation

July, 2006

I recently returned from a trip to Brazil. I was there for one month working on an outsourcing project. It was my first trip to Brazil and hopefully not my last. I was with an extremely talented, professional group of people. Brazil is a wonderful country. Everyone was so gracious and kind ... a real joy to work with.

The pressure was high and the timelines were tight. I really worked hard to transform the message flows and routing of infrastructure alerts from our old business process model to the new.  I am proud to report success.

Although the hours were long and the pace was rushed, we all managed to have fun after work and on the weekends.  Every night we explored a new restaurant together.  On a couple of occasions we had the chance to visit, "the largest mall in Latin America," and it was impressive.  On the weekends we explored the town of Campinas and shopped the local craft fairs.  One special weekend we flew over to Rio and enjoyed an extended weekend there together.

In Rio, we got to spend time on their famous beaches; took a train trip up to see The Christ Statue and a cable car up another mountain called Sugar Loaf.  Of course there was lots of trying different restaurants; shopping and having fun together. On our last night in Rio, we even got to visit the home of one of the executives and meet his wife and daughter.  It was a real privilege to experience the life of Brazil in someone's home.

The flight to Brazil and back, though long, was smooth and comfortable.  We got to fly first class.  That was a real treat for me, too, since I had never experienced first class travel before.  I think I'm spoiled now.

The final thing I really enjoyed about the trip (and probably the most valuable of all) was spending time and bonding with my colleagues, many of whom I'd never met before.  It was great to put faces to names and grow the relationships.  I miss spending time with the new friends I made during my month-long stay there.

Purpose of this Website

A professional home page is similar to the front window of a retail business. In this case, the product is me.  I will highlight some of my best skills and experiences for you. I offer business value to your enterprise, and invite you to explore my sites to learn more about me on a personal and professional level.

What is Enterprise Systems Management?

Large enterprises have tremendous investments in their IT infrastructures. These investments include not only people, but resources like software applications, middle-ware, mid-range servers, non-stop servers, mainframes and storage systems - to name but a few. Resources like these need to be proactively monitored for trouble and, if found, the right people need to be notified as quickly as possible to resolve the problem -- minimizing downtime and impact to the business. Systems Management is the act of applying special software suites and automations to the monitoring needs of the enterprise. I've been specializing in the area of fault monitoring for over five years and am committed to the success of my clients. I value partnerships and teamwork, continual process improvements, personal responsibility and innovation that matters to others. I invite you to explore more on this topic here.
